| Abstract | Ongoing efforts to clone, sequence and map genes in the mouse have far exceeded our ability to define their functional role. The generation of mutations is an important first step towards understanding the function of genes in normal mouse development and physiology. Gene trapping in embryonic stem cells provides an efficient method to identify, clone and mutate genes at random, permitting the functional analysis of new genes in mice. |
