Using embryonic stem cells as a model, Prof. Brickman will discuss his model for how transcriptional competence to re-activate pluripotency genes is maintained during differentiation. These mechanisms suggest simple paradigms for regulative early mammalian development that could allow for transcriptional stochasticity while promoting reversible, but precisely controlled cell fate choice.
